Your Chimney Stack Put Right
From the pots down to the roof line. Repointing, new flaunching, pots re-bedded or replaced, and new lead where the stack meets your roof.
You learn what your chimney actually needs. We get up to the stack and look closely. If repointing will sort it, you are not priced for a rebuild.
Your roof check is free. No obligation. Call 01803 446 106 and tell us what you have noticed.
Your roof
Concerned About Your Chimney?
It is difficult to judge from the ground. You can see open joints in the brickwork, a pot leaning at an angle or a weed sprouting from the top. Inside, a damp patch on your chimney breast comes and goes with the weather.
Let us take a proper look. We tell you what is wrong with your chimney and what the fix will cost. This is the chimney work we carry out:
- Repointing - worn mortar raked out from between your chimney bricks and replaced.
- Flaunching - the cracked mortar collar that holds your pots renewed.
- Chimney pots - loose pots set firm again, and cracked ones swapped for a pot that matches.
- Lead flashings - split or lifted lead round the base of your stack renewed.
- Caps and cowls - unused flues capped so rain is kept out and air can still move.
- Rebuilds and removals - a stack past saving rebuilt, or taken down and roofed over if you no longer use it.

Signs Your Chimney Needs Work
Your chimney gets more weather than the rest of the roof. It stands tallest, so it wears soonest. These are the signs worth calling us about.
- Dark gaps between bricks - if you can see lines where mortar used to be, the pointing on your stack has worn away.
- Sand or mortar on the ground - gritty bits on your path or in the gutter have usually dropped from the stack.
- A pot that tilts or wobbles - the mortar bed holding it has cracked and needs renewing.
- Plants growing out of it - roots force the joints in your chimney further apart every year.
- Damp on the chimney breast - a patch inside that appears after wet weather and fades again usually means the stack or its flashing.
- Lead lifting at the bottom - once the flashing at the base peels back, water runs straight down inside.

Common questions
Chimney Repair Questions
The usual suspects are tired flashing at the base, a cracked mortar collar round the pots, or brickwork joints that have opened and drink in rain. A disused flue without a cap or vent can do it too. We check each of these on your chimney and tell you which one is to blame.
Not necessarily. A slight lean that has been there for years can sometimes be left, or repointed. Loose bricks, or movement that is recent, need dealing with promptly. Call us and we will check yours for free.
Yes. It can come down to below the tiles with the roof patched over the gap, or be cut down and capped. A listed home, a conservation area or a stack shared with the neighbours may need consent first, so check before work is booked.
Usually. The chimney is the highest, most exposed part of your roof, and safe access normally means scaffold. Your free roof check will confirm what yours needs.
Stack size, the amount of worn mortar and how hard it is to reach all play a part. Scaffold tends to be a big slice of the bill, so the pots, flaunching and lead are worth seeing to at the same time. Once we have looked, you get a figure for yours.
Yes. Rain does not care whether the fire is lit. Worn mortar or split lead lets water through either way, and an open flue wants a vented cap so it stays dry inside.
Usually. Clay pots are still made in traditional patterns, and we match the height, style and colour of your others as closely as we can.
