Torquay Roofing

Flat Roofs, Repaired Or Renewed

Rubber, fibreglass or felt, we work on them all. Over your extension, garage, dormer or porch, we repair what can be saved and renew what cannot.

A new roof is not the default answer. If a patch or a new edge trim will stop your leak, that is what we price for you.

Your free roof check comes first. You get the facts on your roof and pay nothing for them. Call 01803 446 106.

Is Your Flat Roof Letting Water In?

The clues are usually there. A stain creeping across your kitchen ceiling. Water lying up there days after the rain has stopped. Felt that is cracking, bubbling or peeling back at the edges.

Call us before the next downpour. We find why your flat roof is leaking and fix it. This is what we do for you:

  • Repairs - cracked, bubbled or open seams mended without stripping the whole roof.
  • EPDM rubber - one large sheet across your roof, leaving very few joints to fail.
  • Fibreglass (GRP) - a tough, seamless finish well suited to smaller roofs and awkward shapes.
  • Torch-on felt - modern layered felt, a solid choice when you want like for like.
  • Decking and falls - rotten boards replaced and the slope corrected so rain runs off to the outlet.
  • Edges, upstands and outlets - the junctions with walls and gutters, which is where most flat roof leaks start.

What to look for

Signs Your Flat Roof Is Giving Up

A flat roof usually warns you in good time. Often you can see the problem from an upstairs window. If yours shows any of these, call us before it reaches your ceiling.

  • Puddles that linger - water still sitting on your roof two days after rain means it is not draining.
  • Bubbles and blisters - raised patches show water or air has got beneath your roof covering.
  • Splits and cracks - older felt dries out in the sun and opens up along its joints.
  • Edges coming away - where your covering has lifted at a wall or the edge, wind and rain can get under it.
  • Weeds or grass on the surface - anything growing up there means water is being held on your roof.
  • A mark on the ceiling below - a stain under your flat roof is the last sign to show, not the first.

Common questions

Flat Roof Questions

It depends on the roof. Rubber suits large, simple areas because it goes on as a single sheet. Fibreglass is good on smaller roofs with fiddly details. Felt is a sound, cheaper option for garages and like-for-like jobs. We will tell you which we would choose for your roof, and why.

Flat roofs are built with a gentle slope so rain runs to the gutter or outlet. If the deck has sagged, or was laid too level, water sits there and works its way into any weak joint. We check the fall on every flat roof we look at.

One split, a failed joint or a lifted edge is a repair. A roof cracked all over, spongy underfoot or leaking in several spots has usually had its day. Your free roof check will show which yours is.

Yes. Size does not matter. A porch canopy, a bay, a dormer top or a garage gets the same care as a big extension.

That depends on the material and the workmanship. Modern rubber and fibreglass roofs commonly last for decades, and good-quality felt holds up well too. Old mineral felt laid many years ago is what we replace most often.

Yes. A rooflight can be added when your flat roof is renewed, with its upstand sealed into the new covering.

Only if it was designed for it. Most extension roofs are built for occasional maintenance, not everyday use. If you want to use yours as a balcony or terrace, ask us first.
